Koala Screws

Koala screws are a range of self-drilling and self-tapping screws specifically engineered for plasterboard installation. They are designed to penetrate plasterboard sheets into timber or steel studs without pre-drilling, providing a secure fixing that sits just below the surface for easy filling.

Plasterboard screws (like Koala screws) have a bugle head that countersinks cleanly into plasterboard without tearing the paper face, a sharp point for self-starting, and a coarse thread for timber or fine thread for steel framing. Regular wood screws have a flat or pan head not suited for flush plasterboard fixing.

For 10mm plasterboard into timber studs, 32mm–41mm screws are typically used. For 13mm board, 41mm screws are standard. For double-layer plasterboard, longer screws (65mm+) are required. For steel framing, fine-thread Koala screws in the same lengths are recommended.

As a general rule, plasterboard screws are fixed at 300mm centres into intermediate studs and 150mm centres at sheet edges.
